Seminar-cum-Orientation workshop
On Substance Abuse Prevention & various Welfare Schemes of Delhi Govt
Chief Minister Smt Shiela Dixshit and the Minister of Social Welfare & Women & child Development Dr Yoganand Shastri inaugurated the Seminar on Drug Abuse Prevention and various welfare schemes of Delhi Government on 4th Sept 2008 at 11 A.M. in the main Auditorium of Delhi Secretariat.
A campaign was organized by the Directorate of Prohibition, Department of Women & child development in collaboration with Health Fitness Trust. It was coordinated by the former Asian Marathon Champion Sunita Godara, Director Health Fitness Trust.
Ladli scheme Brochure was released of by the Chief Minister Delhi in the presence of Women & Child Development senior executives.
Secretary DSW & WCD Smt Debashree Mukharjee, Smt Rashmi Singh-Samajik Suvidha Sanagam, Ms Geetika Sharma JD Prohibition, United Nations office of Drugs & Crimes (UNODC) gave the presentations.
Delegates were invited from various organizations. Representatives from Gender Resource Centers, NGOs, School & College staff with senior students and senior citizens from welfare associations attended the seminar.
The purpose of this Seminar was to provide basic knowledge of all the welfare schemes and substance abuse prevention. The delegates functioning at grass root level could become ambassadors by disseminating the information to the needy people in their locality.
The purpose of providing basic knowledge about drug abuse to these people to train them on this issue so that they could convey a message of positive health, fitness, well being and encourage young children and residence of their locality to adopt a healthy life style and built a safe and secure drug free environment. They will help encouraging those who are unfortunate victims of the substance abuse to get them detoxified in the centers run by the Government and NGOs supported by it. This will send a message of hope among these unfortunate victims.
Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) H.Q. New-Delhi, Govt. of India and UNODC had joined the campaign to support the cause as Co-Partners.
This 6th year of Drug abuse prevention campaign received good response from the corporate world. ONGC supported the event as Title Sponsor. New Horizons India Ltd, MTNL & Systopic Labs supported as Co-sponsors.
